Awesome another fellow climber. I'd rather just be in shape. I bought a bunch of new pants and now they barely fit, lol.

I got up to 210 pounds on my 5 foot 8 frame and I climb mountains so of course I clicked on your post. Plenty of us fatties climb 10,000 foot peaks so you still have a mountain climbing career in you.

I also have been cutting weight and have lost 5 pounds with really slight changes to my eating but a much more disciplined approach. Previously, I would get 1 or 2 pastries with my coffee per week and tell myself, hey it's just 1 or 2, no big deal. As you could guess, 1 or 2 adds up. I kept the regular excercise and eliminated irregular eating. I haven't been just eating salads for lunch but I make sure not to splurge. As a result, it's pretty sustainable. I read that you need to consume 3800 calories less than typical intake to lose a pound so I'm going long-term.
My recent post <a href="http://deadhedge.blogspot.com/2010/02/leaving-evidence-behind-obama.html" target="_blank">Leaving the Evidence Behind: the Obama administration response to Anthem Blue Cross</a>

I managed to exercise 6/7 days last week! Was stoked! Hoping to make at least 5/7 days this week. Plus, I'm eating at home now, nomore diet soda every other day or a Taco Bell lunch.

I'm noticing a difference and hope to keep it up. It IS hard work, Mike, but totally worth it!

Thanks Richard, I've actually looked at a few of Tim's great posts on fitness. I am actually following a couple of his rules, like not drinking calories, and avoiding “white” carbohydrates along with eating small regular meals.

The majority of my weight is all in my gut. And I know that calorie based drinks are the worst for you. And I know that the majority of my weight gain has been from drinking 4-5 sodas everyday. The sugar in sodas isn't processed very well by your body, and usually gets stored as fat much quicker than foods. Combine that with the fact that I've been behind a desk since I got home, working on this blog and my other projects, and there is the formula for weight gain.

Hi,

just a hint, I've found the following suggestion on Tim Ferris Blog quite helpful to cut some weight, and develop a healthy diet habbit:
http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2007/04/06/how-to-lose-20-lbs-of-fat-in-30-days-without-doing-any-exercise/

It's a short and to the point advice that works and does not require much thought and effort to maintain.

Cheers

I will admit that I thought the title was lame when you asked me, but I do like the post. (I guess in context, it worked better than I thought it would.) OK, now drop that cappuccino and give me 20!
