2009 A Year of Adventures

With 2009 drawing to a close I’ve been reflecting on just how amazing this year has been. 2009 was the year I broke out from the mundane and started truly living a life of adventure.

And Boy oh Boy! What an amazing adventure it’s been getting to the New Year.

Seems like I traveled all over the great USA. I spent time ministering to kids with Live Offensively For God Ministries. Went rock climbing and sleep outside in a desert under the stars in just my sleeping bag for the first time ever. All along the way making new friends and trying new things that pushed me outside of my comfort zone.

This is the year that my the vision for my life grew. I started dreaming bigger than before.

This is the year that I got married!

It’s also the first year I lived completely debt free, and above my means. I didn’t have to live paycheck to paycheck.

So let me take you on a little photo tour of my year:

5 Reasons To Start A Business in a Down Economy

I am in the mindset that now is the best time to start a business, even with our economy in the dumps. If you are thinking about starting a business but are concerned with the economy, here are my 5 reasons why now is the time to launch your business.

  • Reason 1:

Most of the competition is going out of business or is already out of business. A lot of companies can’t survive a downturn for a number of reasons. In some cases it is a lack of funding, poor management or simply, they suck.

  • Reason 2:

Consumers are choosier. In a time of plenty, people maybe less likely to bother looking around for better deals. In an economic downturn shoppers are forced to think hard about their choices. This is the other reason why the above statement is true about your competition.

  • Reason 3:

There is less competition for laborers right now so you can get good help for a reasonable cost. Thanks to the internet, you can even outsource to laborers overseas.

  • Reason 4:

Technology has drastically reduced the cost of running a business. I could spend all day listing the online resources available – free in most cases – that could cut overhead costs. Thanks to the internet again, you can do business with the entire world.

  • Reason 5:

Most people already think now is a bad time to go into business. It’s like the stock market. People always jump on board right before it crashes and end up losing all their money. You have to ride it up from the bottom and get out when the going is good.

These are just a couple of the reasons I’m starting a new business venture, MK3Y. If you have some good reasons why you think now is a great time to start a business, go ahead and share in the comments below.

What Are You Aiming At?

What Are You Aiming At

In our busy lives we often do not pay much attention to the little daily decisions we make. Few even pay attention to what it is they are aiming at in life. However, for those of you who have set goals and targets, I ask this question: are you aiming at the right thing?

In the 2004 Olympics, a man named Matthew Emmons was on track for the Gold medal in the 50 meter three position rifle final. He was so far ahead in points that all he had to do was get his bullet anywhere inside the inner ring of the target and the gold medal was his.

As he aimed for his final shot, he prepared himself mentally, paused his breathing, took aim and then fired. Continue Reading…

5 Reasons Your Job Sucks

5 Reasons Not to Get a JOB

There is a simple reason not get a job: It’s income for dummies. I don’t know who said that quote first, but I know I’ve heard it dozens of times. Maybe you have too, but the truth is, it’s a hard reality for some to face.

Society has been lying to you since the beginning of the last century. Prior to the 1900′s and the industrial revolution 92% of all Americans were self-employed in some fashion. The problem today is our horrible education system. You see, we don’t teach people about our own system of economics in schools any more. Instead, we teach children to get a JOB.

The formula for success you’re told is this: study hard + getting good grades + going to college + getting a good job = SUCCESS! Well, how is that working out for you these days?

It’s time for a reality check. Here are my five favorite reasons why NOT to get a job. Continue Reading…
